The notion that the old order must give place to new has been emphasized, rightly so, but there is a need for the old to impart experience and leadership. These components cannot be divorced from innovation.

The service that is offered by DNP Consulting is age old and our people have accessed it by using conduits like friends and relatives who work in the cities. A limited contact, because of distance, was possible.

The companies that offered the services to the villages know about the way of life of rural communities through reading and discussions in seminars and other forums. They might have all the expertise and efficiency, but not the personal touch which encapsulates Ubuntu.

Community Development

The company is in the process of forming Partnerships, subsidiaries, joint Ventures and Agencies in pursuit of job creation and service delivery.

Co-Operatives

If our elders are something to go by, co-operatives are the best way of creating livelihood. Though “ilima” was not meaningful in commercial terms, it provided the perfect way of livelihood, So this is not a new phenomenon to blacks.

“The common thread (enacted in different ways, and subject to the constraints of various systems of national law) is the principle that an enterprise or association should be owned and controlled by the people it serves, who share any surpluses on the basis of each member’s contribution  (as a producer, labour or consumer) rather than their financial capital.

C0operatives are based on and values of self-help, self-responsibility, democracy and equality and solidarity and cooperative principles of:

  1. Voluntary and open membership
  2. Democratic member control
  3. Economic participation by members
  4. Autonomy and independence
  5. Cooperation among Cooperatives
  6. Concern for community

The South African Government’s 10 year review of 2004 differentiates between two economies in South Africa:

“…..the first is an advanced, sophisticated economy based on skilled labor, with the formal sector which is becoming globally competitive. The second economy is mainly informal, marginalized, unskilled, populated by the unemployed and those unemployable in the formal sector. Despite the gains made in the first economy, the benefits of growth have yet to reach the second economy, which has enormous challenge’s arising from the social transition. The second economy risks falling further behind if there is no decisive government intervention”.

After registering a Co-operative, we keep a keen eye on its development and encourage the member’s to use us whenever in need on their way forward. In cases where there is no provision for programs for impact monitoring or where financing Agencies and/or Government are involved, we provide a bridge in terms of communication.

We have identified an area that, among others, lead to collapse of many Co-operatives despite the availability of funding (or because of it )

The unlimited number of members is such that participation in a Co-op is rendered unmanageable. On the other hand, it is desirable that participation in a Co-op should extend to as many members of its communities as possible. But like in “Stockvels”, it works out properly well when the number of members is limited to people who know one another or the likelihood is there for them to know one another, their personalities, skills and businesses acumen. To this end we have adopted a strategy coined “Narrowing to manageable proportions where-in Legal Entities would join as members of the Co-operative. These Entities would then have one or two Directors/ Alternative Directors/ Employees/ Members representing that entity at Co-operative level.

The common understanding of cooperatives among our communities is almost limited to Agricultural Cooperatives, probably due to the good work of the Department of Agriculture and the promotional and financial assistance offered by the department.

It has often been said that the duty of the Government is not to create jobs, but to level of playing fields; but however much the playing fields can be level, the effort will come to nothing if there are no players and coaches.

Other forms of Cooperatives are Retailers, cooperatives, Social cooperatives, Consumer Cooperatives Business and employment Cooperatives, New generation cooperatives, housing cooperatives, Utility cooperatives, and credit cooperatives. In actual fact, the type of cooperative is dictated by the needs of society.

Funding Of Non-Profit Organisation/NGO's

A non-profit organizations is defined as “a trust, company or other association of persons established for a public purpose, the income and property of which are not distributable to it’s members or office bearers except as reasonable compensation for services rendered”.

Thus a non-profit organization is able to employ and remunerate its workers or render stipends to its volunteers.

Among the benefits for registration are that it:

  1. Improves the credibility of the sector because NPO’s account to a public office
  2. Brings organizations into a formal system
  3. Helps bring ways of getting benefits like tax incentives and funding opportunities

A subsidiary company that has been registered in the name of Funders Finders is in the development stages and has started to advertise.

The Employment Centre

We have a database for workseekers and Artisans The purpose of such database would be to introduce work- seekers to prospective employers here and elsewhere. This would also encompass the listing of artisans for the same purpose, but also to let them know one another and from joint ventures and so on. This will also be a vehicle for expatriates to share and impart their skills to locals.

Education

EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT

The South African institute of Tax professional’s offers learnerships, short courses, diplomas and degrees in tax related qualifications. Courses are available at various correspondence facilities and we do sit our employees down and discuss these opportunities.

Above we have been elucidating on projects that fall within the interest of DNP Consulting to manage in a business relationship with other formations, private or non-profit based. However, there are numerous other community concerns in which we wish to collaborate on one level or the other. The following are examples:

Culture

“Culture is a term that refers to large and diverse set of mostly intangible aspects of social life. According to sociologists, culture encompasses the values, belief systems, language, communication and practices that people share in common and that can be used to define them as a collective.”

  1. The prevalence of death at circumcision schools is not rife in the Joe Gqabi District Municipality, but this is no cause to relax. The area needs to be proactive and introduce an NGO attendant to that threat.

  2.   The conduct of funerals and practices before and after sometimes belies our cultures.

  3. The same as above applies to marriages and marriage ceremonies.

Mothers have to get up and go to work, leaving infants and toddlers at home. This is food for thought

We are at the home of Aah Madlangala Senior Citizen Center at Phelandaba Village. Sterkspruit, Eastern Cape, South Africa.

VOICE1: “Here is the produce that already comes from our own hands and soil. The elderly will come here to and joy the fruits and vegetables that are self produced.”
VOICE 2: “Our aim is to bring our elderly to this centre and take good care of them. We will collect their chronic medication from clinics and hospitals so they do not have to travel and stand in long queues.”
VOICE 3: “We seek to revive the knowledge that is lost to the youth, to show them that unemployment is not as rife as it is purported to be.” “The youth must learn the old ways of doing things.”

The Government insists that the people must go back to the land for livelihood and we are here to show them how this can be done.

Nomalizo Dress and Address Charity Organization

Nomalizo Dress and Address Charity Organization is based in rural Sterkspriut, Eastern Cape, South Africa, an area which had been marked as a labour reserve in the apartheid era. It is still marred by pangs of hunger yet chronically ill persons sit or stand or die in 8 hour long queues awaiting medicine having walked long distances. Medicine dispensing machines are a pipe dream. Let us strive to be equal in the eyes of God. Please click this link to see how you can help or donate below.
